It is hard to believe that November is nearly behind us! We have been in third grade now for about 3 months and have really learned a lot. Some highlights this week are:
Reading: In reading we are finishing up our character study unit. we have enjoyed reading Because of Winn Dixie as a class and have thought deeply about the main character Opal. We have thought about how she changed in the story, how she interacted with supporting characters, and lessons that she learned. Our final reading assignment is on Monday and we will be bringing home our binders to share with you!
Writing: We are working on revising and editing our second personal narratives. We have revised by ourselves, with the help of a partner, and will conference with Mrs. Reinhart next week. After our conference we will write our published copy. Students have done an excellent job developing their narrative writing skills during this unit.
Spelling: We learned about contractions this week. We now know that the apostrophe is just like a letter and has to go in the right spot for the word to be spelled correctly. Next week we will NOT have spelling since it is such a short week of school with Thanksgiving break.
Social Studies: We have learned about why our country of the United States is so diverse as we uncovered the reasons why different people have settled here over time. We are now working in small groups to write new lyrics to the song "This Land is Your Land" after our lyrics are written we will use our iPads to make a music video of our new version. We are excited to post this videos for you to watch on our website. Look for them in the near future!!
Math: We have wrapped up unit 2 and are finished with our focus on multiplication and division (for awhile!) Our next unit is on measurement which should be easier since we already studied it in science!
