Reading: This week in reading we compared flat vs. round characters, explored character traits, and the three types of conflict - character vs. character, character vs. self, and character vs. nature. The children enjoyed the literature we read aloud this week and integrated their understanding of character development during their analysis of conflict finding that there could often be more than one conflict in a story.
Writing: The children are finishing their first draft of their realistic fiction stories. They worked on using their skipped lines to revise their writing, create circular story endings, and to add lots of detail. Our goal is to continue this great work in the coming week.
Social Studies: We are really enjoying the SOUTHEAST REGION! The children explored three National Parks in the region on their Ipads by responding to a blog post asking them to Think, Puzzle, and Explore what they might know, formulate some wonderings, and do research on a .gov site allowing them to watch videos and explore each national treasure. We also explored Memphis, TN and The French Quarter in New Orleans. The children enjoyed analyzing music from the region and picked their favorite...Bluegrass won the vote! We listened to Cajun, Delta Blues, Dixieland Jazz, and Bluegrass.
Spelling: This week the children will be studying the ce, ci, and cy pattern which mirrors the pattern they practiced last week. They are doing terrific work on their Tic-Tac-Toe work and assessments. Thank you for the support at home in this area.
