A WONDERFUL time was had by all with Friday's event "Muffins with My Special Lady." We had a terrific turn out to honor the important ladies in our lives!!
Math: We are starting Unit 7 on Fractions. After our pre-test, we spent the week looking at fractional units to build on our understanding of fractional parts and their relationship to the whole. We have also been working on adding details and examples to our math writing prompts during workshop and finding creative ways to share our ideas in circle.
Social Studies: We wrapped up our study of the Midwest by focusing on Detroit and Chicago...two big cities with so much to offer tourists and local residents. We reviewed all of our "Crop Duster" stops and the study guide in anticipation for the test on Monday. We will move back to Science with an exploration of the Structures of Life where we will study plants! May is a wonderful time of the year for this unit!!
Reading/Writing: We finished our Non-Fiction unit and will now merge our new learning with a Reading and Writing block looking at Non-Fiction research. The children began researching their state in a comprehensive text with their partner. They created a Popplet graphic organizer on the ipad that webbed and linked all of the topics they are considering for their writing project. Additionally, the children have also been presenting their KeyNote presentations on their ipad from the recently completed Non-Fiction writing mini-book about a "topic I know really well." They have done an amazing job and learn so much as presenters and active listeners from hearing these presentations. The graded rubrics will be coming home once we finish all of the presentations. Great work!!
Spelling: We are exploring Week 28 words that explore familiar patterns. We have some excellent spellers!
