It's been a great week! The children are excited to play outside each day and enjoy the weather. As we look forward to the beautiful spring season ahead, please continue to pack warm outdoor clothing as it is still chilly!
Math: We are carefully exploring addition and subtraction equations with unknown addends and looking at the relationship between addition and subtraction fact families. We also explored writing equations and expressions with variables and solving.
Science: Our unit on Light and Heat led us to explore shadows, light's path, and reflections this week. We also discussed two real-world situations that involved using our prior knowledge and evidence from the experiments to make conclusions, predictions, and connections. Ask your child to share our discussion about ambulances and rear-view mirrors!
Reading: As we continue with our Non-Fiction unit, we practiced strategies for reading non-fiction including using context clues to decode unknown vocabulary and determine the meaning of unfamiliar words then checking on the ipad dictionary. We also recognized that using sequential language (first, second, then, next) on a graphic organizer can help us understand the big idea of an otherwise complex non-fiction passage. We have also been enjoying more frequent IDR breaks to celebrate March is Reading Month!
Writing: Wow! Our Non-fiction writing is really taking off! We are so excited each day to start writing our next section of the non-fiction topic we know well. There is a buzz during writer's workshop as the children share their work, progress, and discovery in this unit. We explored how to organize our information by making a Table of Contents, section headings, and , captions. We also learned how to writer powerful introductions to really grab the reader!
Spelling: We are looking at suffixes again for Week 24. Inspired by these patterns, we are using more adverbs and adjectives in our daily writing to give energy to our ideas!
